Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was born on March 10, 1949. She is an American investor as well as a speaker and consultant. She founded The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001 and shortly thereafter , the company was sold. One of the original "Shark" investors, Corcoran has appeared in every season of ABC's Shark Tank until now. She has been involved in 53 deals as of February 2020. The biggest was a $350,000 purchase to cover 40 percent of Coverplay. Corcoran, who was the second child of 10 from a Catholic family with a low-income, was born in Edgewater in New Jersey. Her mother, Florence, was a household worker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. was her father. He was a mover from one job to the next during Corcoran’s childhood. At times, her family relied on deliveries of food that was free from a friendly local grocer. Corcoran recalls her father being a drunkard who sometimes treated her mother with contempt and disrespect, especially after the fact that he was drinking. Corcoran was a troubled student throughout school. Later, she discovered she was dyslexic. Corcoran started high school in St. Cecilia High School Englewood following her departure from her Catholic elementary school. Corcoran was absent from several classes in her first year and transferred to Leonia High School where she was a D student.
